Overview:
During Dancing on Ice’s tenure at Bovingdon Studios, CSG Events is responsible for day-to-day operational management of the studio, site infrastructure and general maintenance, supplier liaison and accreditation. Working directly with ITV’s Health & Safety team CSG Events is the principal contractor during the build and breakdown periods, preparing site inductions, reviewing contractors’ RAMS and highlighting any potential issues.
CSG Event’s ability to maintain a long running site is vital to the success of the studio and the productions that are filmed there. A large element of this is having an onsite support team who can be left, with minimal supervision, to maintain the site. The service provided at Bovingdon has been designed to deliver this whilst remaining cost-effective.
Key tasks during the pre-production phase include:
- co-ordinating people and vehicle movements in accordance with production schedules
- collating the relevant information for access passes and dietary requirements
- conduit between ITV’s production team and security
- liaising with technical supplier heads of departments i.e. lighting, sound, video, power to ensure that any issues have been ironed out prior to the live shows
Communicating effectively with the show’s production team and suppliers whilst keeping an eye on the studio, is vital. This ensures that any issues that could potentially impact on the live production are dealt with efficiently and immediately. With absolutely no margin for error, the live shows require a belt and braces approach to all aspects. Even contingency plans have a back-up plan, e.g, the live broadcast uplink has three systems in place; direct link to BT Tower, fibre optic connection and satellites.
